Neunikla nám ani další anglická soutěž, tentokrát překladatelská

Na přeložení byly dva texty, z češtiny do angličtiny – jedna báseň od T. S. Eliota: Pustina – druhý text byl úryvek z knihy vyprávějící o autorovi, jak si tuto báseň četl.
Oba texty nebyly na přeložení až tak složité, avšak některá slova nás překvapila, například korouhvička – wind vane. Po celou dobu psaní nám byly přístupné slovníky, snad již díky zmíněnému výrazu korouhvička, který je možná některým lidem nicneříkající i v češtině, natož pak v angličtině.
Výsledky soutěže se bohužel dozvíme až 26. 11., na den otevřených dveří. Úplně na závěr bych chtěl zmínit paní učitelku Vavrečkovou, která nás na akci doprovodila. A když se jedná o tu překladatelskou soutěž, tak níže si přečtěte i anglický překlad tohoto článku.

On the 26th of October, 2 selected pupils from the class 9.B (mentioned above) took a part in a translation competition „Překladatelský Tygr[id]“, this time a 5th year of this annual competition for primary schools.
The competition was not as small as we had thought it would be, there were another 7 primary schools and 2 competitors from each school.
As the name of the competition suggests, it was a translation competition. There were 2 texts to translate from Czech to English – one poem by T. S. Eliot – Wasteland, the second one was a paragraph from a book, telling us about the author reading this poem.
Both texts were not that hard to translate, but some of the words really shocked us, for example „korouhvička“ – wind vane. There were dictionaries available for us for the whole time of the competition, maybe for the word „korouhvička“, which even some of the Czechs do not know, let alone in English.
We will get to know the results on the 26th of November, on the day of open hours. And for the end i would like to mention the teacher mrs. Vavrečková, who took us to the competition.
